HBS18509 RE-USEABLE WORKSHEETS – VISUAL TRACKING

This game is to be used to improve visual tracking. -That is eye movement across a page as well as down a page.

This is one of the last skills to be developed before reading and is essential for good blending skills.

Children will learn to scan pictures which will then translate into being able to scan words and sentences.

1. The child takes a board with the pictures on it and circles the relevant picture according to the teachers’ instructions e.g. Circle all the elephants that have dot patterns on their bodies.

2. This should be done with each board e.g. Circle or put a line through all the Butterflies with dark black circles, or all the butterflies with double squares. Once the child has mastered this skill then two instructions can be given at the same time. e.g. Put a line through all the apples that have a wave pattern and all the apples that have a star pattern in them. This can be extended to three instructions at the same time.

3. To use this game as a co-operative learning experience. The teacher plays the game once or twice with the group and then one child becomes the teacher and they give the instruction to a class mate. The “teacher” checks that they are correct. This enables two children to benefit from the game at the same time.
